Lotus Necklace and Earring Set by Melanie Potter of the School for Beadwork

In 2008 I took a class from Melanie Potter to learn to make her Victorian Swag necklace. I was very impressed with how great her directions were as well as her in class instruction and bought several of her kits, with the assistance of my friend Lea (the bead show was in Portland, where Lea lives). All was not altruistic on Lea's part. As a fan of all things Egyptian and all things purple she fell in love with this design and nagged me for two years to make it for her. Finally I did. No part of it is difficult but there is a lot of work in it, as wth most beadwork. Melanie uses a combination of netting and one and two drop peyote in this design. I added some of my own beads to make this a bit more purple and a little less green for Lea, but a careful selection of beads was included in the kit. It is lightweight and easy to wear and I especially love the little lotus clasp.
