Beading For a Cure Necklace project

This is my entry/contribution to the Beading For A Cure auctions for prevention and research of colo-rectal cancer. Visit http://beadingforacure.com for more information about the project. Suffice it to say that a specific collection of beads is chosen by one of the organizer (this year it was Sandi Graves of Stormcloud Trading Post in Minnesota) . Entrants purchase the collection for a modest sum and then use at least one of each bead in the design they make up. They can use another focal bead or cab and another bead too but mostly stick with the beads chosen and design around them. I happened to have this beautiful cab--an agate or a jasper or something, I'm not sure, but not a particularly pricey stone--and found it went really well with the beads Sandi had chosen. It's just a straight bead applique with a design inspired by the swirly creations of Barbara Ann Carroll. I then used some of the fancy beads in the edging and made a ruffle of Swarovski crystals on diagonally opposed quarters of the edge and hung the focal bead Sandi had chosen from the others. The strap is inspired by a lariat pattern in the September issue of Bead and Button. It would have been too delicate to support the piece except that I used Fireline as the thread. I love that stuff!
