FRIDA CON PARROTES SET (Frida with Parrots) Bead-Patterns.com patterns 6788 for necklace, 6965 for parrot earrings

During their lifetimes, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera not only produced works of art but also bought, sponsored, and promoted Mexican folk art. Frida in particular was in love with her own land and its culture. Partly for that reason, the Mexican folk artists repay her by making her the most popular female icon in Mexican folk art except perhaps for the Virgin of Guadalupe. Frida was a great lover of animals too and is often shown in the folk art, as she portrayed herself in her own paintings, with her parrots or monkeys. And of course, as people now know from the movie, Frida, she wore Mexican traditional dress almost exclusively. The long skirts hid the deformities caused by her childhood polio and her later injury in the trolley accident. Patti chose to make the fringe into the continuation of Frida's rebozo and skirt, and embellished it with more parrots. The earring parrots are fringed with a garden of flower and leaf beads. The strap doesn't show in this picture but Patti did quite an intricate netted strap that resembles Mexican lace or papel picado, the cut paper work. Very nice rendition of this design.
